As Chief Operating Officer of the NBA G League, Portia Archer leads the strategy, daily operations and business functions of the NBA G League, working to increase both awareness and revenue at both league and team level. Joining the G League in 2020, Archer is already making an impact on the league thanks to her background, experience and track record managing disruption and leading innovation and growth in environments often at the intersection of the technology, media and entertainment industries.

Prior to joining the G League, Archer served as Senior Vice President of Direct-to-Consumer Services for NBC Sports Group and was responsible for the launch, development and management of NBC Sports Group’s first direct-to-consumer business and live streaming product, NBC Sports Gold, which included a portfolio of Premiere League soccer, PGAT golf, NBA Basketball, NASCAR, Rugby as well as Olympic sports. Archer also founded NBC Sports Group’s first mentorship program, “Huddle Up”, dedicated to fostering connections and growth opportunities for employees.

Archer spent time in senior leadership positions at HBO and the BBC. At HBO, she oversaw the strategic planning and launch of HBO channels outside of the U.S. while developing and managing multi-platform subscription-based video-on-demand channels throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and Canada. During her time at the BBC she was a key member of the launch and delivery team for the BBC iPlayer, the most popular on-demand streaming service in the UK.

Archer is a member of the Women’s Sports Foundation Board of Trustees and a Betsy Magness Leadership Fellow. In 2018, she was named a Sports Business Journal “Game Changer” and one of Adweek’s Most Powerful Women in Sports.

A Chicago native, Archer played college basketball at the University of Chicago, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in public policy and economics. She also holds an MBA in Management and Strategy from Columbia Business School.
